PocketAngel's first priority is to small animals in harms way throughout the DFW area of Texas. We understand that sometimes things happen and you are forced into a situation where surrendering your pet is your best and/or only alternative. Our Surrender program is for those of you who are in a desperate situation and need a new, loving forever home for your pet. If your need is genuine and if there is room available in our foster homes for your pet(s), we will gladly accept them into our organization for re-homing. It is preferable that animals accepted into the Surrender program come with their cage, food, bedding, and all other supplies. There WILL be a surrender fee, which will vary depending on your situation, the number of animals and their temperaments, and whether they come with suitable supplies for their care and maintenance.  The fee is determined on a case by case basis.

Please, do not leave this until the last minute. If you are aware that something may be looming in the near future that would require you to re-home your pet(s), contact us as soon as possible so that we can prepare a potential spot for your pet(s).

PocketAngels does NOT advocate or condone reckless and/or inexperienced breeding, and believe that people need to be responsible for placing their own resulting litters. However, we do not make the babies pay for the irresponsibility of their humans.  We DO accept litters, and we DO find spectacular, loving homes for each one.   A litter-surrender fee will be required.

PocketAngels is NOT for extremely large surrenders. We generally cannot take in extremely large groups of juvenile to adult animals due to our limited foster home resources, however, we will help as much as we can given our current operating situation.  We want to help as many animals as possible, but we simply do not have the space or resources to help them all.

Procedure
1.  Take the time to review our policies and submit an application for Surrender.
2.  Once a rescue surrender application is completed, it will be reviewed and a volunteer  will contact you for more information or to arrange a time for the purpose of  evaluating  the animals in need.
4. If your animal(s) are accepted into PocketAngels, they need to come with their cage, supplies, food, and toys if at all possible. Please, do not take the only home from your animal that he or she will have left.  The small amount of money that you could make from re-selling a cage is not worth the stress and depression that such an act will cause your pet.  Depending on the situation, various fees may apply.

Policies
1. If your animal is not friendly or has personality issues, please let us know. This does NOT mean that we wont accept him or her in the program.  We will to evaluate your pet. Final determinations on whether we can accept him/her is based upon that evaluation, space availability and your honesty.
2. We can only accept a limited number of animals from one rescue situation.  These determinations are made on a case by case basis. If you have to re-home a lot of animals, please make us aware of this at the initial time of contact.
3. We can only accept personal pets, accidental litters, etc. Please do not bring us wild and/or non-domesticated animals as we simply are not trained and do not have the ability or resources to handle them. Instead, seek out an experienced wild life rehabber.

Policy Statement on Surrenders

Animals Received From Their Guardians
We realize how difficult it may have been for you to come to us to surrender your companion animal. Because of the significance of your decision, we want to ensure that you thoroughly understand our policies on surrendered animals. PocketAngels (hereafter known as PARR) is a “limited access” shelter. We promise to accept needy animals based on the availability of space within our facility and available foster homes. We will do our best to properly evaluate your animal, address any health or temperament issues he or she may have, and clear your surrendered companion for adoption.

We cannot guarantee adoption for your companion animal(s).  However, we can guarantee that if we cannot find a wonderful placement for your companion animal(s), they will be able to enjoy a forever home with us.

It is essential that you understand that by surrendering your companion animal to PARR, you completely give up ownership and all rights to this animal. After you surrender your companion, knowledgeable volunteers will evaluate him/her to be placed up for adoption. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that he/she will even be able to be made available for adoption. Factors that we consider are your companion’s physical condition, health, and temperament. Even if he/she is made available for adoption we cannot guarantee that someone will choose to adopt him/her.  PARR’s dedicated volunteers make every effort to find loving homes for animals in our adoption program. Once an animal is placed into our adoption program, there is a set holding period. Animals will remain for the mandatory 4 week quarantine time PLUS a period of no less than 3 months.  We keep the animals for this amount of time to ensure that their physical and emotional needs are being met, and it is a further guarantee for a happy and satisfied animal to not be shuffled between 3 or more homes within a short period of time.

Euthanasia is an absolute last resort at PARR.  Animals available for adoption may be evaluated for euthanasia if there is a decline in their health and/or temperament to the point of having a negative impact on their quality of life.

IMPORTANT!
When you receive the surrender paperwork, PLEASE  fill out all paperwork as completely as possible. This gives us the opportunity to get to know your animal(s). Our goal is to provide the happiest experience possible for each surrendered animal as well as to place them into a loving home that will best match your pet’s needs. Please let us know your pet's good points and their “not so good” points. Please be honest! We don’t want to place them into a home just to have them returned later because of a problem that we didn’t know about.

PARR requires that animals accepted for surrender come with their usual food, bedding, treats, toys, and cage. We also require a surrender fee, as it costs hundreds of dollars each month to maintain the animals at PARR and any contribution towards those costs is would be greatly appreciated. We reserve the right to set the surrender fees on a case-by-case basis as need potentiates to help offset our costs.  If you are surrendering an aggressive male, we do require a $50 altering fee to help offset the costs of neutering the animal.
